Brief citation of Irene Awunah Ikyegh
Irene Mngunengen Awunah Ikyegh was born into the family of late Chief Padopads Awunah and Chief Mrs. Helen Awunah, Ph.D.of Mbachon, Mbabija, Gwer West local government area in Benue State.
She is the 6th child out of the family of 13 who grew up with keen interest in impacting positively in the lives of other people especially the oppressed, poor and marginalized in the society.
Irene Awunah Ikyegh is not just a name. By the sterling characteristic of hardwork and dedication as well as commitment to achieving daunting tasks, she has become a brand and a force to be reckoned with and has been positively implicated as been the brain behind the success story of several initiatives, projects and strides.
Irene Awunah Ikyegh who is well known in several circles an Events Manager, Branding expert, Stages, Marketing and communication consultant and civil activist holds a Bachelors degree in communication and languages from the University of Ibadan where she graduated in 2005.
She has meritoriously worked extensively with Peace Corps of Nigeria, Oceanic Group and National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) in Abuja during which she provided technical support for image building, marketing, and communication as well as media relations for them. The versatile Irene Awunah Ikyegh has also worked at various times as member of local organizing committees of many national events like International Legislative Conference Abuja, Women for Change Initiative Launching, African Convention of Principals, Job Creation Summit Presidential Dinner, and Abuja Carnival.
As a communication and media expert, she has worked for civil society networks like Network for People living with HIV/Aids in Nigeria (NEPHWAN) and Civil Society for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CiSHAN) at national and state levels. In the course of these jobs, she was charged with the responsibility of generating and editing information, education and communication documents for the organizations.She worked on Atiku Abubakar 2019 policy team, her core responsibility was gender policy drafting.
Again, Irene Awunah Ikyegh served as a baseline line assessment consultant for Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and participant in the Media-focused meeting organized by the Health for All Campaign being implemented by Management Sciences for Health (MSH). She also served in the Presidential Summit on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) hosted by the Federal Government of Nigeria on March 10, 2014 which underscores government’s commitment to achieving universally accessible healthcare for its people. The community mobiliser has also extended her services to local areas to ensure that they also feel the impact of some projects. In this regard, she successfully worked on community based projects with public and private organizations like Federal Ministry of Finance, National Human Rights Commission, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment programme (SURE-P), Abuja Carnival, UNESCO Centre, International Institute For Disaster Management and Center for Transparency Advocacy.
As regard her personal characteristics, the highly articulate, confident and persuasive team-builder has personal integrity and is able to relate and create trust in all. The dependable and reliable personality we are talking about here has never failed in supporting and enabling team effort to produce genuine long-term sustainable development.
In the corporate world, Irene Awunah Ikyegh has repeatedly demonstrated and displayed a balanced view across areas related to culture, gender, religion, race, nationality, age and adaptability.
Her core technical competencies are made manifestable when it comes to agriculture and water management; design and implementation of community based institution framework and mechanisms, efficient community mobilisation and training.She worked on Atiku Abubakar 2019 policy team, her core responsibility was gender policy drafting.
